Get Behind Our Community Pet Shop with Your Order of Cat Food
Exactly how do you know your cat is getting the nutrition they require? You're bombarded with cat food commercials, each alleging that their product is better than the others. The Hydrant Pet Center in Highland, IN can help you cut through the complication. We stock a wide variety of cat foods and can assist you in selecting the one that is right for your precious pet.
Your cat is a hunter, descended from a long line of hunters. Wild cats naturally ate a good range of nutritious food, based on what they could catch. But your domestic cat counts on you to feed them. The Hydrant Pet Center has all the foods that will keep them happy and healthy.
What Nutrients Does Your Cat Need?
For starters, your cat is a carnivore. They really need meat in some form: animal protein for crucial amino acids. This could be poultry, beef, lamb, fish, or eggs. They need fats to give energy and help absorb vitamins. Vitamins such as A, D, B1, B2, B3, and B6. Minerals including iron, sodium, and chloride. Additionally, some cat foods incorporate carbohydrates, which are digestible and offer energy.
Reading a Cat Food Label
Cat food companies are required to put particular information on their labels, for instance, ingredients in descending order of weight, and guaranteed analysis, which tells you minimum and maximum amount of nutrients such as fats, protein, and fiber.
Seek out the nutritional adequacy STment, which reveals whether the food is intended for an adult cat or a kitten.
Labels have feeding advice, but they're a guideline and not "one size fits all." Your vet's recommendations takes lead.
Understand food descriptions. There's a big difference between "chicken cat food" and "cat food with chicken." Chicken cat food must be 95 percent chicken, while cat food with chicken can have as little as 3 percent. Food called "chicken dinner" (or chicken formula) can be anywhere between 25 and 95 percent chicken.
In any case, look at nutrients in addition to ingredients. After all, nutrition is what your cat needs.

The Hydrant is a great place. They have a great selection of food and products for your babies plus the groomers are the best. Stephanie is wonderful! She has taken exceptional care of my boys (Toby and tanner) for years. I so appreciate the loving care and patience she has given to my now senior fur baby!
This places always friendly super nice and if you have a animal aggressive dog such as myself they take special care as well you don't need an appointment typically to get the nails clipped but I recommend 2 weeks in advance for your grooming appointment Amazing customer service
They did return my call promptly about grooming (they do groom cats). Unfortunately my cat passed before I could get her in. I have heard great things about them. I think the groomer is Monday thru Thursday but call first, they will call you back 🙂.
