2020 Salon Policies

Satisfaction
The Hydrant’s goal is to give your pet the haircut you desire.  We want to make you happy!  Our groomers will consult with you and determine how long or short you want your pet to be.

Please keep in mind that your pet’s comfort and health are always our number one priority and our groomers will not send a dog or cat home in an unhealthy state just for the sake of achieving a certain look. Please refer to our policies regarding matted coats.

Our groomers will always do an inspection of your pet upon arrival and in the bathtub. We will notify you of anything out of the ordinary that they might find during the grooming experience. This could be skin irritation, bumps and lumps, moles, fleas, ticks and any other form of unusual skin ailments.

We will always keep notes on who groomed your pet and what was done for the groom. You are always able to request the same groomer and if they are not available, another groomer will be able to read notes on how your pet was previously cut.

If you are unsatisfied with the groom, please let us know before you leave the shop - our goal is to make you as happy as possible!  The groomer will make any necessary corrections and we will take notes for the next groom.  Sometimes it’s easier to notice things at home than during the excitement of reuniting with your pet right after their grooming appointment.  If for any reason you’d like us to fix your pet’s haircut, call us within 48 hours of your pickup time and we will correct any issues free of charge. If changes are requested more than 48 hours after the grooming appointment, there may be an additional charge which may include a re-bathing fee.  Satisfaction Guarantee.

Pre-Payment Policy

If you choose to prepay for you pets grooming appointment please know that additional charges may apply do to coat condition, special instruction, special shampoos or spa packages.

Vaccination Records

To protect the health and well-being of all dogs and cats at the Hydrant, we must verify proof that your pet is completely up to date on all of his or her vaccinations before your 1st appointment.  These include rabies, distemper and parvo vaccines. We will accept Rabies Titer Test results from your vet within the last 12 months.   We do recommend Bordetella & Dog Flu Vaccine to protect your pets from communicable diseases.

Privacy Policy

The Hydrant asks that no photos or videos are to be taken of our staff.  We reserve the right to privacy and the private protection of our staff is of dire necessity.

Additional Services requiring Additional Fees

With more and more controversy over the “should we or shouldn’t we” release glands as a part of the grooming process; the Hydrant has opted to eliminate this procedure from our standard process.  We are now learning from Holistic Vets that we are doing a disadvantage by releasing the glands at each groom.  By doing so we discourage the dog’s natural ability to release the glands on its own.  Therefore with the growing concern for anal gland expression, we only provide external anal gland expression for an additional fee of $10.00.  Should your pet have impacted anal glands and need internal expression, a vet will need to provide this service.

MATTED COATS

Additional $15-$30

Prevention is the best defense against matting. Scheduling regular grooming appointments every 4-5 weeks is recommended.  Our groomers are happy to discuss brushing techniques and the proper tools to use when doing regular maintenance at home between grooming appointments.

REMOVING MATS IS A DIFFICULT AND SOMETIMES RISKY PROCESS

Pets with matted coats require extra attention. Occasionally, pets arrive at the Hydrant in a severely matted condition that may put them at risk for grooming services. After discussing these matted conditions with our grooming staff, you (the pet owner) will decide if services should be done in our facility, knowing that there are risks involved. All medical expenses for veterinary care associated with the grooming process of removing severe mats and heavily matted coats will be covered by the animal's owner upon signing a matted coat removal contract/agreement.

Mats in a pet’s coat grow tight and can ultimately damage the pet's skin. In severe matted cases, The Hydrant will not cause serious or undue stress to your pet by de-matting via brush out.  Mats can be very difficult to remove and may require the pet to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts or abrasions to the skin.  Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet's skin allowing mold, fungus or bacteria to grow, producing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process.

After the Shave Down- effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions and can compromise the coat. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes.

There will be an additional charge for this process: it is time consuming and causes extra wear and tear on grooming equipment.

Late Arrivals

The Hydrant’s takes appointments on the hour.  Your groomer grooms numerous dogs a day, therefore, it is imperative that you are on time for your appointment.  With each hour bringing in a new dog for your groomer, If you are late, you will be called 10 minutes after your scheduled appointment to either bring in your dog or reschedule.  After 15 minutes of tardiness, you will have to reschedule your pet appointment for a later date.  By doing so we can guarantee the next pet being groomed will be groomed on time and in a safe manner.  Reminder texts will be given the day before your appointment.  Reminder texts are sent to the phone number that was given at the time the appointment was made.

Repeat Late Offenders

After 2 consecutive late appointments, a $15 fee will be charged for each appointment you are late.  A warning will be given and the next appointment you are late the fee will be assessed.

Late Pick-Up

Additional $15

The Hydrant’s policy is to call you as soon as your pet is ready for pick up.  We ask that all pets be picked up within 1 hours of the time we inform you that your pet is ready. Pets remaining 3 hours after your initial grooming appointment time will be charged a fee of $15.  You will also forfeit any grooming “touch-ups” that need to be done by your groomer.  We strive to make every visit with your pet as safe and stress-free as possible. A normal Grooming Appointment usually lasts at most 2 hours.  We want to get your pet clean, beautifully groomed, and back to you as soon as they are ready. Your pet should not be here longer than 3 hours.

When your pet is here, we DO NOT take your pet outside to go to the bathroom.  If your pet is still here 1 hour or more past the expected pick up time and becomes soiled in his/her own urine or feces, an additional Fee of $25 will apply to for new bath in addition to the late pick-up fee of $15.

Aggressive Pet Policy & Fee

The Hydrant reserves the right to refuse any dog for any aggressive and behavioral actions towards our groomers, staff and other animals while in our facility.

This includes but not limited to: biting, lunging, growling, hair standing-up on the dog’s back or any other aggressive behavior towards any other pets or people.

Additional Fees of $20-$30 will be charged for your pet if they are aggressive resulting in the use of a muzzle and/or the use of more than one groomer to complete your pet’s grooming process.

No Cage Fee

Additional $20

If you request your pet to NOT be caged there will be an additional $20 fee.  Keeping a pet at the groomer in a kenneled space is not mean, it is protective.  In a separate space your pet is protected from other dogs and any injury that could occur while running free.

Aged, Ill, or Special Care Fee

Additional $20

If your pet needs special care due to age or illness we are more than happy to help.  Please let us know if your pet will need extra attention during his grooming when booking your appointment. Because this grooming is a very delicate procedure we need to take extra care in making sure your pet gets groomed safely.  For this special procedure, there will be an additional handling fee of $20.

Express Grooming

Additional $25

When an owner needs a dog to be “In & Out” in less time than a “NORMAL” groom, or needs to be groomed straight through, this is considered an express groom.  This request needs to be done when booking your appointment, isn’t always guaranteed, and will cost a fee of an additional $25

Cancellation & No-Show Policy

After 2 cancellations or “No Shows” you will be asked to pre-pay for your future grooming services.

Return Check Fee: An additional $40 A fee of $40 will be charged for each bounced check.  Payment with cash or credit card is expected to be made within 7 days of notification of non-sufficient funds.

FLEAS

Additional $15

For the protection of our clients and our facility, The Hydrant has implemented the following Flea Policy:

Any dog that comes to The Hydrant with fleas is immediately be given a flea bath, the grooming facility is wiped down, mopped, and completely disinfected, and an additional $15 will be added to your services.  A Natural Flea Bath is given to your pet not a CHEMICAL DIP.  This Flea Bath is NOT a solution to your flea problem.

Our natural flea bath kills any live fleas and their eggs on your pet.  Fleas CAN hide in your pet’s nose, ears, and other crevices, and crawl out after the bath. If fleas are alive in your car, home or yard they will jump right back onto your pet after our flea bath.  Our bath provides NO future protection.  You will need to apply a preventative on your pet to prevent future infestations.

If you know your pet has fleas or suspect fleas, please let us know when scheduling your grooming appointment.  Upon arrival, your pet will go directly to the tub so we can start the flea bath right away and sanitize the facility.  This will avoid the spread of fleas to other clients in the spa.  If you didn’t know your dog had fleas when you dropped off, we will call to let you know and inform you of the additional $15 fee.

Signs that your dog may have fleas are:

Excessive itching and scratching and in some cases dogs will chew themselves bald

red bumps in your dog’s groin or belly, under the legs, at the base of her tail or on her behind (rump)

flea dirt (adult flea feces that looks like small black pepper specks)

We highly recommend using a flea preventative to keep them from coming back.  There are many topical options out there - We prefer Advantix II and Seresto because it not only kills fleas and ticks but it repels them as well.  Make sure you apply the topical treatment as directed and make it a part of your monthly routine to ensure a Flea Free environment.
